What's good family, I'm getting into the habit of doing these blogs to give everyone as much insight on who I really am as a person as well as an artist, a bit of a backstage pass on what goes on inside my world on my rise in this crazy industry, building a strong and loyal fan base (or as I like to call it a support base) is a never ending process, much like anything else that goes into being an artist. I know that I'm on various different music networking sites spreading my name and my music around to gain new supporters and to build a bit of a dialogue between myself and those listening to my music, of course when I started this process I had no idea how I was going to get people to notice me within a slew of other artist out there doing their thing, so the 1st step of course (and I'm sure every indie artist went through this) was to start up a myspace page, now at 1st i was really hesitant to even get involved with myspace because i thought it was just another social site like a blackplanet or something and I just wasn't too crazy about getting involved with it, that was until i started seeing some of my favorite artists on it, and seeing how the fans really interacted with one another, well once I got that started I began to target the pages of my favorite artists and entice their fans to come and check me out, after all if they liked that artist they may dig me as well since we were pretty much in the same genre, after a while I began getting hits from not only fans of my work but producers started dropping by and expressing their interest in working with me, that's where I started getting a bit of internet radio play through myspace, that site has indeed been very good to me, and still is as a matter of fact, once the myspace page got to the point where I was pretty satisfied my manager thought it would be a good idea to have my own official website. I thought that was a good idea but I wanted to make sure that it was very interactive. I would go to other artists sites and I noticed that right from the door they're pushing their product in your face like "Buy my new album click here" ummm can I get a welcome to my site or something 1st please (lol) not only that i noticed that even though there was a lot of features like pictures, videos, and of course merchandise, the main thing that was missing was...(you guessed it) no interaction between the artist and the people who were members of their site, I mean yeah there would be a forum section but most of the time it would take you to a totally different page away from the site, so I wanted to make sure that I was as active as I could be on my site, that's really important you know. I wanted everyone just stopping by for the 1st time to feel welcomed for coming through, so from that point I just began reaching out to as many sites that would allow me to make my presence felt, now don't get me wrong aside from strengthening my viral presence I had to step from behind the laptop and get out there and do performances and meet my supporters face to face and gain even more supporters, all in all building my support base has been and still is the most fulfilling thing to me about being and indie artist, so to all my Myspacers, Kartel Familia, Reverbnation, Facebook, Hitsamillion Fam, and now my Twitter Kartel, because of ya'll my base is growing everyday.
